Product Care
Thank you for choosing a handcrafted wedding band made to be worn, loved, and lived in. Fine jewellery evolves with time, and understanding how to care for your ring will help it age beautifully alongside you.
Resizing & Fit
Wedding bands are designed for long-term wear, but finger size can naturally change over time due to temperature, lifestyle, pregnancy, weight changes, or aging. Most wedding bands can be resized within a reasonable range (usually 1–2 sizes up or down), depending on the design. Plain bands are the easiest to resize. Rings with stones, engraving, unusual profiles, or full eternity settings may have resizing limitations or require more complex work. Multiple resizes over a lifetime may leave very subtle signs of alteration—this is normal and part of a well-loved piece. If your ring ever feels too tight or too loose, stop wearing it and consult a jeweller rather than forcing it on or off. For best results, resizing should always be done by the original maker to preserve the structure and finish of your ring.
Chemicals & Substances to Avoid
To protect your wedding band, avoid direct contact with: - Chlorine (swimming pools and hot tubs) - Bleach and household cleaning agents - Hand sanitizers with high alcohol content - Perfume, hairspray, and cosmetics - Harsh soaps and detergents - Industrial chemicals and solvents It is best to put your ring on after applying lotions, perfume, or hair products.
When to Remove Your Ring
Although wedding bands are made for everyday wear, removing your ring during certain activities can help prevent unnecessary damage: - Exercising or lifting weights - Manual or physical work - Swimming (especially in pools or the sea) - Gardening or using tools - Cleaning or handling chemicals - Sleeping, if you tend to clench your hands Removing your ring during these moments helps prevent scratching, warping, stone loosening, and accidental loss.
Storage & Travel
Store your ring in a soft-lined jewellery box or pouch when not worn. Avoid placing it loose in bags or pockets where it may rub against harder objects. When travelling, store jewellery pieces separately to minimise scratching.
Wear, Patina & Imperfection
Fine jewellery is not meant to remain untouched or flawless. Small scratches, softened edges, and surface marks are a natural record of a life lived. These signs of wear do not weaken your ring or reduce its value. Polishing and refinishing are always possible if you wish to refresh its appearance. Your wedding band is made to evolve with you, carrying the marks of time, memory, and meaning.
Professional Maintenance
To ensure longevity, professional care is recommended every 1–2 years, particularly for rings worn daily. Maintenance may include: - Professional cleaning and polishing - Checking band thickness and structure - Inspecting stone settings, if applicable If you ever notice changes in fit, shape, or surface condition, please reach out for advice or assessment.
Cleaning & General Care (All Metals)
For regular at-home care, a simple routine is best. Clean your ring using warm water, mild dish soap, and a soft toothbrush or cloth. Gently scrub to remove daily oils, lotions, and dirt. Rinse thoroughly and pat dry with a lint-free cloth. This method is safe for sterling silver, gold, and platinum, and helps maintain the surface and overall appearance of your ring.
Sterling Silver Care
Sterling silver naturally reacts with air and moisture, causing tarnish over time. This is a normal chemical reaction and not a defect. Tarnish can be removed using a silver polishing cloth for light oxidation. For heavier tarnish, mild soap and water or a professional silver cleaner may be used. Wearing silver jewellery regularly can help slow down tarnishing. When not worn, store sterling silver in an airtight pouch or box to reduce exposure to air and humidity.
Yellow Gold Care
Yellow gold does not tarnish, but it does wear gradually with daily use. Lower karat gold (10K–14K) is harder and more resistant to scratches. Higher karat gold (18K) has a richer colour but is softer and may show wear more quickly. Fine surface scratches are expected and will form a soft patina over time. This patina is a natural result of wear and can be polished if a brighter finish is desired.
White Gold Care (Unplated, Natural Finish)
White gold is not naturally white. It is an alloy of yellow gold mixed with white metals such as palladium or silver, resulting in a soft off-white tone. Unplated white gold has a subtle yellow or champagne tint by nature. This colour is intentional and reflects the true material without surface coatings. Unlike rhodium-plated white gold, there is no plating that wears off or requires maintenance. Over time, the surface develops a gentle patina, giving the ring a softer, more organic appearance. Clients who prefer a bright, high-contrast white finish should note that this effect can only be achieved through rhodium plating, which requires periodic reapplication.
Rose Gold
Rose gold is created by alloying pure gold with copper, which gives it its pink tone. Some alloys may also contain a small amount of silver. The higher the copper content, the pinker the gold appears. Lower karat rose gold often appears rosier, while higher karat rose gold has a warmer, softer blush. Some clients notice that rose gold appears less pink and more golden with wear. This is a natural process and occurs due to several factors: Daily wear creates micro-scratches that soften the surface and change how light reflects. Copper reacts gently with air, moisture, and individual skin chemistry, creating a natural patina. Over time, this patina can mute the pink tone, giving the ring a warmer appearance. Polishing removes a microscopic layer of metal and may slightly alter surface colour each time. The rose colour is not a coating—it is part of the metal itself. The colour has not disappeared; it has simply matured.
Platinum
Platinum is a dense and durable metal, ideal for everyday wear. Unlike gold, platinum does not wear away but instead displaces, developing a soft, matte patina over time. This patina is often cherished and reflects the ring’s history of wear. Platinum can be polished to restore a brighter finish if desired. Due to its density, platinum rings may feel heavier and more substantial on the finger
